The Executive Committee of the Agency consists of the six founding members.
Nell Browne – CEO of Lyfestyle Focus
A well qualified Occupational Health and Medical Risk Consultant whose career has shown significant achievement both in the practical aspects of the discipline and in the academic field. Industry experience has been with, Lifestyle Focus, Optimal Solve, Metrix Software Solutions, Pro Active Risk Management, Advantage ACT, an international insurance company, NOSA, the mining industry and contains periods spent in general nursing.
She has a significant record in the presentation of well-received public lectures/workshops, in the delivery of papers at both local and international conferences and in the publication of a series of articles in professional journals.. Her most recent published work includes several topics in the ‘Health and Safety Advisor’ published by Fleetstreet Publications. Monthly responses to Health and Safety Advisor subscriber questions and writing articles for monthly updates are a current activity.
Extensive exposure in the field of Occupational Health and Safety which includes considerable experience in auditing in both healthcare and other industry sectors. Attained SAATCA accreditation as an OHSAS 18000 Senior Auditor. Involvement as Special Project Coordinator, Quality Improvement Lead Assessor and Data Manager for Reproductive Health Research Unit (RHRU) National Adolescent Friendly Clinic Initiative (NAFCI),as part of the loveLife program. Special talents lie in the assessment of medical negligence/malpractice, occupational health risk, configuration of occupational health management system software as well as the development and introduction of appropriate corrective and preventive interventions .
She is registered with the ETDP SETA as a Facilitator, Assessor and Moderator.
Nell is currently CEO at Lifestyle Focus cc. as a successful business coach helping others help themselves by building a consumer based network business. She has a passion for helping others realize their potential with a special focus on wellness and nutritional supplementation.
Nell achieved the Certificate in Medicine and Law (Cum Laude) the 4th person to do so, and was the first Professional Nurse to be admitted to the SA Medico Legal Society.
Juliana Le Roux Maritz – CEO of Cygma Consulting
Juliana joined the Cygma Group in 2010 after a 20 year career in the Assets Rental industry as Company Secretary. She was appointed as CEO of Cygma Consulting in 2012 and also co-partner with Rudy Maritz at Le Roux Maritz & Associates, specialising in Corporate Governance and Compliance.
Nico Smit – CEO of NJConsult
Nico started his career as HR/ IR professional in 1991 at the Cape Joint Pension Fund and after completing his term of office, he joined the multi-disciplinary consultancy Verso Group as Assistant Director: Human Resources & Adminstration. In 2007 he opened NJConsult in Durbanville as CEO, providing HR/ IT advisory service in various industries, including finance, construction and healthcare.
He served as Member of the INSETA Steering Committee for the Western Cape and Member of the Executive sub-committee for small, medium and micro enterprises (2004).
Nico is currently also a Member of CBMC Business Forum.
Hennie Thompson – Independant Construction Professional
Hennie started his professional career in 1985 with Anglo American as an Assistant Industrial Engineer until the end of 1991. After serving a seven year term of office with Amalgamated Retailers as Regional Manager he left in 1998 and entered the construction industry, managing the construction of various warehouses and buildings around the country with Bencor Civils. In 2006 he joined Saudi Oger as Construction Project Manager in Al Koebar, a project that spanned over two years. In 2008 he joined the Master Builders Association in the Southern Cape as Area Manager, where he conducted various compliance audits and inspections as part of the MBA’s safety initiatives. In 2010 he joined Waco Africa, a multinational construction group, and relocated to Madagascar, working on the largest Cobalt mine operated by Canadian based Sherrit under the auspices of Kentz.
In 2011 he returned home after completion of the project and joined Telecoms company, Clearline Infrastructure Solutions in Cape Town.
Hennie holds a NEBOSH IGC and is a certificated H&S Auditor and is in his final year of study with the University of Liverpool toward acceptance to the degree of Master in Construction Management.
He is registered member with IOSH UK and the International Fiber Optic Association.
Llywelyn Reed – Environmental Health Practitioner
Llywelyn is currently employed as SHEQ Consultant with Vodacom SA in the Western Cape.
Rudy Maritz – Executive Partner at Le Roux Maritz & Associates
Rudy started his career with the Department of Labour in 1985 as a learner inspector and moved through the ranks to Senior inspector after which he accepted a position as Loss Control Officer with one of the Tiger Brands, subsidiaries in the fishing industry in 1994. After serving a seven year term of office, he resigned from his then position of Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Manager, to join the Cygma Group as Construction Safety Officer in 2001.
Moving through the ranks within the company, he worked on various capital projects with Alcellor Mittal, Bidvest, Vodacom, NMC, Granbuild, GVK and in 2011 he was offered the opportunity to outsource EHS Compliance to the Cygma Group under the banner of Cygma Consulting. In May 2013, he was also appointed to the position of Executive Partner at Le Roux Maritz and Associates, a labour law consultancy in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town.
Rudy holds various tertiary qualifications from the Universities of Cape Town and Pretoria and the Justice College in Pretoria, including a NDip Public Health, NHDip Civil Engineering and M.Sc. Environmental Engineering. Rudy is also writing his final exams for Aviation Safety Management in September 2013
He is registered with the SACPCMP as Construction Project Manager and have already applied for dual registration as Construction Health & Safety Agent. He is also a freelance author for Fleetstreet Publications and an expert member of the FSPBusiness Health & Safety Club. He also made various contributions to the SA Labour Guide.
